GINGER BEER
This is a shortcut to the traditional homemade favourite, but equally
delicious! About 4 litres beer.
Ingredients:
4 ½ litres water
2 cups (500 ml) sugar
30 g GINGER (WHOLE)
10 g instant dry yeast
Method:
- Boil the water in a large saucepan. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved.
- Place ginger on a muslin cloth and tie with a rubber band. Hit pieces through the
material with a mallet to crush the ginger.
- Add ginger to water, and stir. Boil for 5 minutes.
- Remove saucepan from heat and leave to cool until lukewarm. Pour into a large, clean
bucket and add yeast.
- Stir and cover with plastic. Leave for 2 days.
- Strain beer and bottle. Serve chilled.
Tips:
- Use more sugar if you prefer sweeter beer.
- For extra fizz, add a handful of raisins but remove before bottling.
